It already requires a whole lot of routing, especially if you insist on using ReaStream in 8-channel mode and in a bi-directional manner. I just tested it with only one instance of ReaStream set to stream 8 channels. This can be done using ReaStream (or ReaMote). I think that you'd be better off trying to make use of the second computer's processing power during mixdown. You may get yourself into a lot of trouble printing the wrong processing. However, it's not uncommon not to apply any processing at all during tracking and add all this later during mixdown. If it's just a bit of eq, a single computer will probably be capable of handling this. Shall the two Reaper instances be transport-sync'ed? I wonder what kind of processing you would like to apply during tracking that is so demanding that you'd need to share the load between multiple computers. Accumulated latency will be considerable! Providing zero-latency monitoring seems to become a convoluted task.Īnother drawback is that you will have to deal with two separate Reaper projects instead of one.
Then, they will get delayed a third time due to ReaStream and finally once again due to the ASIO latency on the second computer. First, why would it be beneficial to process the signals during tracking? The signals will get delayed for the first time prior to being output on the first computer due to its ASIO latency and maybe even a second time due to plugin processing latency. Just to clarify: Is one computer receiving input signals from an audio interface which it is supposed to process in real-time and then forward to the other machine via ReaStream for actual recording? If this is the case, I can't see any benefit. Has anyone done anything like this? Any success? Any caveats?
I'm planning on using ReaStream to stream every individual track to another computer on a local network (hard wired through a gigabit switch) and have that other computer simply record all the incoming audio on individual tracks. Has anyone experimented with streaming lots of tracks over ReaStream? I have a setup where I'd like to have one computer handle all the FX processing and another computer handle all the tracking.
